We’re now living in a world where face masks are required daily, so it’s a good idea to make a decision whether disposable single-use masks are the go to or whether to invest in reusable face masks. Everyone has their own reasons for using either kind of mask but we’re going to give you our opinion of whether we should be washing our face masks or throwing them away.
Disposable face masks are only meant to be used once and not multiple times, it is then thrown away, more specifically in a closed bin and some suggest to cut the ties before doing so. There’s a reason for this, single face masks that aren’t disposed of properly become a risk to the environment on land and sea, where there have been cases of disposable masks washing up on our shorelines and animals becoming entangled in them. Most hospitals and healthcare establishments use surgical single-use masks to throw away after attending to different patients and in this case, it completely makes sense, but we don’t believe disposable masks have to be used in the wider public.
Reusable face masks come in all different variations, with filters, handmade or in different styles. There are certain materials that are more effective than others so it is suggested to buy or make good quality face masks with durable, protective materials and the best thing is once you’ve bought or made your reusable face masks you only need to wash them to wear them again, no more throwing away your masks. That’s why we chose to create reusable masks here at Packmask, as we want to protect the public and the environment at the same time. With durable, flexible material and a comfortable fit there’s no more need for disposable single use face masks!
